Is Animal-Friendly Purchasing The Future?

There was quite a diversity of response to my October 2007 PurchTips article "Purchasing, Social Responsibility & Animals" and the accompanying blog posts (here and here). Some agreed that animal-friendly purchasing was a big part of the future of corporate social responsibility. Others didn't.

So I found it interesting when the front page of today's USA Today featured the results of a survey that asked American kids if they could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

The #1 answer?

Save environment/protect animals with 44% of the responses.

So, in the eyes of our future corporate leaders, protecting animals is a part of saving the environment or the "green" movement that has gained so much traction in the past couple of years.

The remaining responses?

End wars/terrorism - 21%
Cure disease/cancer/AIDS - 14%
Feed the hungry - 11%
End racism/prejudice - 4%
